Cartier-Bresson once said, "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept." An idea I never paid much mind until I had a this dream:
In front of me were two pictures of the same subject; one in focus and one out of focus. Both were excellent, but the obscure one intrigued me the most.
So today in the woods, I shot out of focus. Woah, man. The way the colors melt together, seeming to create a natural painting ... it’s awesome. New shapes are revealed and colors take precedence. The results are familiar and cozy and remind me of home.
Man, Henri was a boss. Much respect for this man and this technique.
